Reconstruction of Ak Saray Palace completed
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- A ceremony of opening of the Ak Saray Palace (White Palace), which was reconstructed with participation of French specialists, has been held in Shakhrisabz on 1 May 2014.

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of France to Uzbekistan Jacques-Henry Heuls and the delegation of Dordogne participated in the event.

The restoration works were conducted in participation with the French specialists. Ministry of Culture and Sport Affairs and General Council of Dordogne Department of France signed an agreement of cooperation. The sides started exchange programme in 2010 within the document.

The works were conducted by French enterprise SOCRA led by Céline Ollagnier. The specialists restored 200 square meters of tiles from mosaic, which were produced during Timurids dynasty.

These tiles are now protected with the construction, which was built on the initiative of the Uzbek side and it provides appropriate conditions of conservation, while not hindering access of visitors to the palace.

The project was implemented at the support of UNESCO Office in Tashkent and financed by the General Council of Dordogne Department and Embassy of France in Uzbekistan.
