A scientific conference entitled "The Day of Uzbekistan" was conducted in Cairo (Egypt). The event was held in one of the leading higher educational institutions of Egypt – Helwan University.
Conference participants discussed the course of political and socio-economic reforms in Uzbekistan and commented on the country’s investment potential.
A major part of the meeting was devoted to contemporary Uzbekistan. Among the topics discussed were important events soon to take place in the country, such as the anniversaries of the cities of Samarkand and Margilan, and the fact that the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization awarded Tashkent the title of the capital of Islamic culture in 2007.
On the occasion of the conference, the President of the University of Helwan Prof Dr Abd El Hay Ebaid and other scientists and professors noted on the great attention given by Uzbek administration to the preservation of the rich historical-cultural heritage of the Uzbek nation, attention given to bringing up a harmonically developed young generation.
Following the meeting a photo gallery entitled "Tashkent – the capital of Islamic culture", and an exposition of the works of national applied art were opened.
