Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Today, on 19 December, Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis Tanzila Narbaeva received the Deputy Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress Zhang Qingwei.

A wide range of relations between Uzbekistan and China were discussed, in particular, issues of further strengthening mutually beneficial cooperation in the political, trade, economic, cultural and humanitarian spheres.

It was emphasized that relations between the countries are developing on the basis of friendship and comprehensive strategic partnership, and 2023 was important in the history of Uzbek-Chinese relations due to active political dialogue at the highest level.

Over the past 5 years, the volume of mutual trade between the countries has doubled and amounted to more than US$9 billion. During this period, the volume of Chinese investment also increased 5 times, and the number of companies - 3 times.

During the dialogue, an exchange of views took place on the joint creation of innovative and technological potential, in particular, on the implementation of projects in the areas of automotive manufacturing, green energy, smart agriculture, and the production of water-saving technologies.

As another important area of relations, attention was paid to the development of interregional cooperation. It was noted with satisfaction that as a result of the visits this year, more than 100 investment treaties and agreements were concluded for a total amount of US$3.5 billion.

In addition, a unanimous opinion was expressed on the need for further development of cultural and humanitarian cooperation, primarily in the fields of education, science and technology, culture and tourism.

The parties emphasized the importance of cooperation between the parliaments of the two countries as the basis of a deep and mutually beneficial partnership, focused on activity in this direction, which has been observed in recent years, as well as the need to further enrich relations with practical projects.

In order to ensure the effective implementation of high-level agreements reached between the two countries, attention was paid to establishing regular dialogue and further enhancing the role of interparliamentary friendship groups as coordinators in this process.

An agreement was reached on intensifying visits by parliamentary delegations, holding joint events, exchanging experience in exercising parliamentary control over the execution of local budgets, as well as further developing cooperation in such areas as entrepreneurship development, poverty reduction, transition to a “green economy”, and protection of water resources.
