Prosecutor General’s Office to address air pollution in Tashkent

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) —  In Tashkent and Tashkent region, enterprises will now be inspected for the installation of necessary air purification equipment, as reported by the Prosecutor General’s Office.

In recent days, the capital has frequently ranked high in international air quality ratings. The Prosecutor General’s Office attributes this to not only natural factors such as arid climate and sandy soils but also to increased emissions from industry and transportation, illegal tree felling, and intensive construction without approved master plans.

Starting in September 2024, the Prosecutor General’s Office has begun conducting raids nationwide to ensure compliance with legislative acts.

Law enforcement agencies have discovered that enterprises in categories I and II, which have a significant impact on the environment, often delay the installation of required purification equipment. For instance, in the Tashkent region, out of 27 enterprises, only 19 have completed the installation of dust and gas purification devices, while in Tashkent, only 8 out of 31 enterprises have done so.

To ensure proper equipment installation, starting from 22 October, the Prosecutor General’s Office, together with specialists from the Ministry of Ecology, Health, Transport, Internal Affairs, Emergency Situations, the Hydrometeorological Service Agency, the Construction Supervision Inspection, and other responsible organizations, will conduct inspections throughout Tashkent and the Tashkent region.

It is emphasized that all identified violations will be closely monitored, and appropriate measures will be taken for each case.
