Proposals for utilizing additional opportunities in Andijan region discussed

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) —  On 18 November, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a meeting focused on the socio-economic development of the Andijan region, improving the investment climate, and supporting entrepreneurial activities in the area.

Andijan region has significant economic potential. The President’s visit in February this year and the tasks set during it have provided a powerful impetus for regional development. Since then, tangible results have been achieved in industries such as manufacturing, entrepreneurship, trade, services, tourism, and agriculture.

However, substantial untapped reserves still exist. Studies conducted in the region’s districts have identified numerous promising opportunities.

For example, in the Altynkul and Jalakuduk districts, Chinese investors launched a project for growing peppers using drip irrigation and processing them on an area of 600 hectares. According to calculations, export revenue from the produce will amount to US$15,000 per hectare.

In the Pakhtabad district, a project for growing cherries and berries on 470 hectares has been launched in cooperation with a company from the UAE. The entrepreneur, successfully fulfilling investment obligations, has requested the creation of necessary infrastructure for the project.

There is also potential for restoring operations at four poultry farms in the region, which will provide jobs for 650 people from low-income families.

In the city of Asaka, the company "ADM Electrics" produces 28 types of automotive wires and multimedia systems. Expanding the localization of models such as "Onix," "Tracker," and "Kia Sonet" will allow the company to increase its production capacities and income.

During the meeting, the hokim of Andijan presented a draft resolution aimed at utilizing the identified reserves. The document outlines target indicators for the socio-economic development of the region by 2025. This includes plans to attract US$3.1 billion in investments, implement 334 investment projects, create 305,000 jobs, and achieve an export volume of US$1 billion.

Moreover, taking into account the region’s high population density, it is planned to change the land use category for 1,800 hectares of land, including unused agricultural land and hilly areas. These areas will be designated for the construction of industrial and service complexes, as well as residential buildings.

The President approved the presented initiatives and instructed that all opportunities be effectively utilized, infrastructure for project implementation be modernized, and efforts be made to increase employment and incomes in the region.
