Projects and plans in industries are critically reviewed

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 25 December, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a meeting on the development of the electrical, chemical and pharmaceutical industries in the regions.

As a result of structural transformations and the created conditions in industry, over the past five years, production in these three industries has increased 2.6 times, and their share in industry has reached 7 percent. The production of 231 types of new products was also mastered, exports amounted to US$1.6 billion.

This year alone, 39 electrical engineering enterprises worth US$163 million were launched, 17 enterprises worth US$70 million were launched in the chemical industry, and 57 enterprises worth US$87 million were launched in the pharmaceutical industry.

However, there is still a lot of untapped potential in these industries. The saturation of the domestic market with domestic products does not reach 50 percent in electrical engineering, 40 percent in the chemical industry, 18 percent in pharmaceuticals.

The zones and opportunities for industrial cooperation created in the regions are not used enough. Industrial equipment worth US$85 million, imported for 116 enterprises, has not been put into operation. 727 enterprises are not operating at full capacity.

At the meeting, existing shortcomings were critically analyzed and urgent tasks were identified.

- Khokimiyats need to work in close connection with industries, diversify the regional economy, and increase the number of projects. Only then will there be economic growth, jobs and budget revenues,” said Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

Next year, in the three industries under consideration, it is planned to begin the implementation of 24 large projects worth US$12.7 billion. These include the expansion of the production capacity of polyvinyl chloride at Navoiazot and soda ash in Kungrad, the production of olefin from methanol in Karakul, the production of metal sheets for household equipment and cars in Samarkand.

The head of our state emphasized the importance of involving local enterprises in the supply of construction materials and equipment necessary for the implementation of projects.

Also, industries and regions together formed 190 medium and small projects worth US$2.1 billion in electrical engineering, 139 projects worth US$3.8 billion in the chemical industry, and 110 medium and small projects worth US$1.5 billion in pharmaceuticals.

At the meeting, the President got acquainted with their production capacity, product range and the number of jobs being created, and gave instructions on accelerating the implementation of projects and increasing their efficiency.

Responsible persons reported on the progress of projects already being implemented, the system of interaction between regions and industries.
