Uzbekistan has not large forest areas. All forests are under protection and only sanitary and regeneration felling are conducted. Annual logging does not exceed 30,000-35,000 cubic meters and they are firewood. Uzbekistan does not satisfy its demand to timber internally and it is actual for the country to breed fast growing forest. Poplars are one of main perspective breeds.
Uzbekistan has all conditions for development of poplars’ breeding, which can help country to satisfy its demand for timber. To achieve this goal, new project has been launched in the country. The project envisages to share experience of Turkey in modern methods of breeding poplars through testing various sorts of poplars, support of material-technical base of farm and plantation, which will be founded within the project.
On 27 April 2012, Main department of forestry of the Ministry of Agriculture and Water Management of Uzbekistan will hand over equipment to Jambay state forestry. Equipment was purchased due to resources of TIKA.
