Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 9 October, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev was briefed on the project for a new general plan for Tashkent city.

Currently, the area of the city covers 43,822 hectares, with a population exceeding 3 million people. These figures are expected to continue growing in the future. In this regard, a general development plan for Tashkent has been developed up to 2045.

Initial proposals in this direction were presented to the head of state in 2022. Following his instructions and recommendations, the project has been refined. A large-scale effort has been undertaken at the enterprise "Toshkentboshlit" in collaboration with companies from Singapore, the United Kingdom, Turkey, Germany, China, and the Netherlands.

According to the plan, the territory of Tashkent will be divided into three zones. The conservation zone will ensure the preservation of cultural heritage, historical sites, buildings, and green spaces.

The reconstruction zone will involve additional construction in accordance with master plans. In the renovation zone, it is planned to demolish dilapidated housing and old structures, which will then be updated or replaced with new ones.

In recent years, issues of ecology and transportation have become increasingly relevant. Over the past ten years, the average air temperature in Tashkent has risen by 1 degree, and on certain days, air pollution levels exceed permissible norms. The number of vehicles is also continuing to grow, leading to increased traffic congestion.

These aspects have been taken into account in the development of the new general plan. Specifically, it is planned to increase the area of green spaces in Tashkent and its surroundings threefold—to 25,000 hectares. Thus, the area of green spaces per capita will increase from the current 3 to 6 square meters.

According to urban planning regulations, residents should be able to reach the nearest kindergartens, schools, hospitals, and shopping facilities within 15 minutes from their homes. In this regard, the public transport network will be expanded, the number of transport hubs and stops will be increased, and new roads and bus rapid transit routes will be constructed.

The infrastructure for electricity supply, water supply, and sewage in Tashkent is experiencing significant stress due to the city’s growth. The general plan includes measures to increase their capacity.

Once the general plan is approved, its maps will be made available in the Geographic Information System of the Urban Planning Cadastre and on the website of the Tashkent Hokimiyat for public access.

Responsible officials presented the main indicators of the project.

The President emphasized the importance of transforming Tashkent into a modern metropolis designed for comfortable living and working for at least 7.5 million people. He also issued instructions for the development of the Kibray, Zangiata, Yukorichirchik, Urtachirchik, and Tashkent districts of the Tashkent region as part of a unified agglomeration with the capital.
