Prices for goods and services in Uzbekistan increases by 1% in January

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- In January 2021, prices for goods and services in Uzbekistan increased by 1% on average per month. In annual terms (by January 2020), the increase in prices in the consumer sector reached 11.6%, the State Statistics Committee of Uzbekistan said.

Food products added in price by 1.2% in January 2021. Non-food products rose in price by 0.5%. Services have become more expensive by 1.4%.

In annual terms, food products added in price by 15.5%, non-food products – by 9% and services – by 8.2%.

In January 2021, fruits and nuts (3.2%), vegetables, tubers, plantains (vegetable bananas) and legumes (2.3%) among the main food and non-alcoholic beverages rose more than others over the month, due to the influence of the seasonal factor.

Among fruit and vegetable products, in January 2021, prices increased for bell peppers and grapes (8.6%), as well as for pomegranates (8.2%). Along with this, mandarins became cheaper by 2.1%, oranges - by 1.7%.

In annual terms, lemons (2.0 times) and mandarins (1.7 times) rose in price most significantly.

The price of premium flour increased by 1.4% over the month, pasta and similar pasta - by 0.9%, beef - in the range of 0.5% - 0.8%, lamb - by 0.4%, live, fresh and chilled fish - by 1.4%, pasteurized milk - by 1.8, raw milk - by 1.6%, buckwheat - by 1.1%. Long grain rice, on the other hand, became cheaper by 1.1%.

Compared to January 2020, buckwheat (1.5 times), eggs, vegetable oils, lamb (1.3 times), sugar, beef (1.2 times), fresh milk ( by 18.4%), flour (by 14.9%), rice of all sorts and rice chaff (by 14.1%).

One of the key inflationary 1,7 2,2 factors in January 2021 was the seasonal increase in prices for fruits and vegetables. Due to the growth in prices for goods in this group, the consolidated CPI for the month increased by 0.24 percentage points, (47.4% of the total impact of the growth in prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages).

CPI for the month for the section "Housing services, water, electricity, gas and other fuels" in January 2021 was influenced by an increase in tariffs for water supply services (1.6 times) and fees for garbage collection (0.7%), and also in connection with the increase in prices for materials for the maintenance and repair of residential premises (0.4%), services for the maintenance, repair and protection of residential premises (0.2%).

Of the goods and services in this section, the most significant price increases over the month were for services for disinfection and destruction of pests (4.5%), repair and installation of household appliances (1.3%), sewing textiles used in households (0.7 %), as well as household detergents and cleaning products (0.9%). In annual terms, the most noticeable increase in prices for services for washing and cleaning carpets and rugs (18.5%).

Of the main types of goods and services observed in the healthcare sector in January 2021, the cost of diagnostic imaging services (1.6%), medical laboratories (1.4%), outpatient treatment services and rehabilitation services increased more significantly than others over the month (1.0%). In annual terms, medicines and medical products became more expensive by 13.8%, outpatient and inpatient treatment services - by 13.5% and 7.8%, respectively, diagnostic imaging and medical laboratory services (15.2%).

In January of this year, the CPI in the "Transport" section was largely formed under the influence of the rise in the cost of maintenance and repair of personal vehicles (2.2%), the rise in gasoline prices (2.1%), an increase in the cost of travel in an intercity bus (2.6%), as well as an increase in prices for air tickets on international traffic and railway tickets for longdistance trains (1.0%). In annual terms, the highest price growth was recorded for air passenger transport services (28.7%).

In January this year, the main increase in prices in the section "Recreation, Sports and Culture" was recorded for monthly magazines (15.1%) and weekly newspapers (12.3%). An increase in prices was also noted for tourism services (1.5%), for organizing sports events and printing invitation cards (1.0%). In annual terms, the highest price increase was recorded for museum services (20.7%).

In January 2021, the highest price increase in the "Restaurants and Hospitality" section was recorded for the services of recreation centers, campgrounds, youth hostels and similar hotel services (14.3%).

In addition, in January this year, prices increased for services of hotels, motels, hotels and similar hotel services (2.3%), prepared food in canteens (1.1%) and cafes (0.9%). In annual terms, the maximum price increase was noted for the services of recreation centers (21.8%).

Among household goods and services, the prices for hairdressing services rose more significantly than others (1.6%). Over the month, personal appliances and goods became more expensive by 0.6%, jewelry, wrist and similar watches - by 0.2%, watch repair services - by 1.5%. Compared to January 2020, the cost of hairdressing services in the period under review increased by 20.1%, services for photocopying documents - by 20.9%, watch repair - by 16.9%, appliances and personal goods added in price by 9.9%.

In the structure of the short-term consolidated CPI for January 2021, the dominant position (over 50% of the total impact) is occupied by price changes for food and non-alcoholic beverages. The next place in terms of influence is taken by price increases in the section “Housing services, water, electricity, gas and other fuels”, which account for 24.0% of the total influence. The third position was shared by price trends in healthcare, as well as clothing and footwear (5.0% each).
