Presidents of Uzbekistan and South Korea held negotiations in a narrow format

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and President of the Republic of Korea Yoon Suk Yeol held negotiations in a narrow format at the Kuksaroy residence in Tashkent.

At the beginning of the conversation, the head of Uzbekistan cordially greeted the guest and congratulated him on the 32nd anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations, as well as on the fifth anniversary of the special strategic partnership between the two countries.

At the meeting, issues of expanding cooperation in political, trade, economic, technological and other key areas were discussed.

It was noted that the Republic of Korea occupies a leading position among trade and investment partners of Uzbekistan. Last year, trade turnover between the countries amounted to US$2.5 billion, and the volume of Korean investments exceeded US$7.5 billion. The tourist flow is also growing, and 10 flights a week operate between Tashkent and Seoul.

The parties agreed to create a new partnership model aimed at effectively using potential and promoting large high-tech cooperation projects.

The development of cultural and humanitarian exchange was highly appreciated. Four branches of leading Korean universities operate successfully in Uzbekistan, and more than 11 thousand Uzbek students study in South Korea.

The House of Korean Culture, Multidisciplinary Children’s Clinic, Seoul Garden and Seoul Street in Tashkent became symbols of friendship and partnership.

The presidents emphasized the importance of mutual support in international organizations.

There was also an exchange of views on issues of regional cooperation, including the “Central Asia – Republic of Korea” format.

Particular attention was paid to the development of close contacts in the field of security and defense, including the fight against cybercrime, terrorism and extremism.
