President: Share of ICT in GDP of Uzbekistan makes up about 2%
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Share of information-communication technologies sector in the gross domestic product (GDP) of Uzbekistan makes up about 2%, the President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov said at the session of the Cabinet of Ministers of Uzbekistan dedicated to the 2015 results.

President underlined that priority area is introduction of modern ICT into sectors of economy and speed up creation of E-Government in the epoch of Internet and electronics.

Uzbek leader said that global experience shows that ICT sector’s role is increasing in global economy. He said that the ICT development directly impacts to competitiveness of Uzbekistan and allows to collect and summarize large data, open new opportunities to manage at the strategic level.

Uzbek President Islam Karimov said that currently share of ICT in global GDP makes up almost 5.5% and it will reach 9% by 2020, according to estimates of international experts. He noted that share of ICT in GDP of South Korea makes up 11.8%, Sweden – 7% and the US – 6.8%.

Despite development of the sector with fast pace in Uzbekistan, its share in the GDP of Uzbekistan makes up only about 2%.

At the same time, Uzbekistan has all necessary resources and opportunities to more speedy development of the ICT sector as professional specialists are trained at foreign universities in Tashkent, such as Inha University (South Korea) and Uzbek universities.
