President sets goals for electrical industry development: Exports to reach US$1.7 Billion
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 22 April, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev reviewed the results of the electrical industry’s performance in the first quarter of the year and outlined key development objectives for the near future.
This sector is considered one of the main drivers of Uzbekistan’s industrial growth. Over the past seven years, export volume has increased sevenfold, and the export geography has expanded to 63 countries. Today, around 500 enterprises operate in the sector, employing over 27,000 people.
To further unlock the industry’s potential, the Presidential Decree “On Additional Measures to Bring the Electrical Industry to a New Stage of Development” was adopted on 22 January. The document promotes the production of high-tech, high value-added goods, encourages investment and international brand partnerships, and supports R&D initiatives.
According to first-quarter results, the industry produced over 7 trillion soums worth of products. Exports totaled nearly US$310 million — a 30% increase year-on-year. The sector attracted US$55 million in investment, US$48 million of which came from foreign direct investment and loans.
An investment portfolio worth US$900 million is being formed to launch globally demanded products under international brands. Work is underway to align technological processes and implement cutting-edge solutions.
During the presentation, targets were set for the second quarter and the remainder of the year. These include raising production to 43 trillion soums and increasing localization to 5 trillion soums.
A total of 71 projects worth US$656 million are planned, expected to create 4,600 new jobs. Export volume is projected to hit US$1.7 billion, with export destinations expanding to 70 countries.
The President emphasized the need for a strategic approach to sector development amid global economic instability and the importance of rapid market adaptability. He highlighted the need for deeper localization, production of high-tech, value-added goods, and the training of skilled specialists with knowledge of modern technologies.
Relevant officials were instructed to establish close cooperation with each enterprise in the industry, ensure swift resolution of production and logistics issues, and actively work to expand export geography and access new markets.
