Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev has signed a law titled "On Amendments and Additions to Certain Legislative Acts of the Republic of Uzbekistan Aimed at Improving the System for Working with Digital Evidence."
The document was adopted by the Legislative Chamber on 27 August 2024, and approved by the Senate on 24 October 2024.
Until now, the national procedural legislation lacked provisions defining electronic (digital) evidence or regulating its use. There were no clear guidelines on what data could be classified as digital evidence.
The new law introduces amendments to several existing codes and regulations, defining electronic data and digital evidence. It establishes procedures for the collection, presentation, examination, analysis, evaluation, storage, and destruction of such evidence.
According to the document, electronic data refers to information created, processed, and stored using electronic devices, information systems, and technologies.
The law regulates interactions with digital evidence, requiring officials such as investigators, prosecutors, and judges to accept and examine primary electronic data carriers in the presence of specialists.
Digital evidence is defined as electronic data containing information relevant to a particular case. This includes files, audio and video recordings, and information published online or in other electronic systems.
