President of Uzbekistan Receives Japanese Foreign Minister
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 27 August, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev received an official delegation led by Japanese Foreign Minister Takeshi Iwaya, who is visiting the country on a working trip.
The guest conveyed sincere greetings and congratulations from Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba on the occasion of Uzbekistan’s Independence Day.
During the meeting, the parties discussed ways to further strengthen strategic partnership between Uzbekistan and Türkiye, expand multifaceted cooperation, and enhance the effectiveness of practical interactions. Special attention was given to the outcomes of the first session of the Strategic Dialogue between the foreign ministers of the two countries, held on the same day, which were highly appreciated by both sides.
A steady increase in bilateral trade volumes and the implementation of major investment projects involving leading Japanese companies were noted. On 17 August, the National Day of Uzbekistan was successfully celebrated at the World Expo 2025 in Osaka, highlighting cultural and economic cooperation between the two countries.
The parties discussed deepening political dialogue and advancing joint projects in trade and economic, investment, financial and technical, as well as cultural and humanitarian spheres. Initiatives to expand the activities of the Uzbek-Japanese Center and the potential creation of a joint university involving leading Japanese universities were supported.
They also exchanged views on current international and regional issues, including preparations for the upcoming “Central Asia + Japan” summit.
