Sergey Lebedev is head of mission of CIS observers, which monitored the elections of the President of Uzbekistan.
The largest observers mission at the Sunday elections started work in Uzbekistan on 10 December. It had a staff in Tashkent and branches in Bukhara, Samarkand and Ferghana.
The CIS observers visited more than 1,000 voting stations in Tashkent and regions of the country. In its statement on the results of the monitoring of the elections, the mission said all required legal, organizational and technical conditions had been created in the country to monitor the election and voting process.
The observes had access to documents regulating the election process and had the opportunity to meet the representatives of the candidates, as well as to visit the polling stations and district election commissions.
The CIS observers positively evaluated the fact that not only political parties, but also citizens through initiative group of voters could present their candidates at the elections.
The mission statement says that the Sunday elections were free, open and transparent, UzA reported.
The President of Uzbekistan highly evaluated the activity of the CIS observers mission.
Sergey Lebedev congratulated Islam Karimov with winning the presidential elections.
During the negotiations, the sides discussed issues of multilateral cooperation within the CIS and other issues of mutual interest.
