President of Uzbekistan meets with Prime Minister of Georgia
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 5 March, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev received a delegation from Georgia led by Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, who arrived in Tashkent on an official visit.
At the beginning of the meeting, the head of the Georgian government conveyed warm greetings and best wishes on behalf of President Mikheil Kavelashvili.
The talks focused on prospects for expanding bilateral cooperation in key areas such as trade, economy, investment, transport and logistics, as well as tourism and culture. Both sides noted the positive dynamics of interstate relations, the intensification of parliamentary and governmental interactions, and the remarkable growth in economic ties.
In 2024, the volume of mutual trade increased by 50%, the number of joint ventures expanded, and cargo turnover grew significantly.
A direct air route was established between the capitals, and a digital bank, created with the participation of Georgian investors, is successfully operating in Uzbekistan. In the humanitarian sphere, an important event of the past year was the Days of Uzbek Culture and Cinema, held in Tbilisi.
The parties highly appreciated the results of the Intergovernmental Commission meeting, which took place in Tashkent during these days, and emphasized the need for coordinated measures to maintain the high growth rates of mutual trade, ensure a balanced export-import structure, develop industrial cooperation, and make effective use of transport and transit potential. Special attention was given to expanding cooperation in the fields of digitalization and the modernization of tourism infrastructure.
As a result of the meeting, an agreement was reached to further strengthen cooperation at the government level of both countries to ensure the practical implementation of the planned initiatives and agreements.
