President of Uzbekistan meets japanese delegation

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) – On 9 July, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev received a delegation from Japan led by Tadashi Maeda, Chairman of the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC).

The discussions focused on expanding mutually beneficial cooperation with this leading financial institution and advancing cooperative projects with Japanese companies.

It was noted with great satisfaction that the high-level visit to Japan in December 2019 elevated bilateral relations to a qualitatively new level, enriching them with practical content.

Volumes of mutual trade and direct Japanese investments in Uzbekistan’s economy are growing, and new joint ventures are being established.

JBIC’s significant role in implementing priority investment projects in Uzbekistan was emphasized. Today, the portfolio of joint projects exceeds US$3.7 billion, covering areas such as the petrochemical and textile industries, energy, and infrastructure modernization.

The activities of the "Sojitz Corporation" in Uzbekistan were highly praised, with several major projects in the oil and gas sector having been realized. Yesterday, the company’s representative office was opened in Tashkent.

The President highlighted the importance of promptly preparing and implementing new cooperative projects with Japanese companies in areas such as "green" energy, geology, infrastructure modernization, utilities, and healthcare.

An agreement was reached to adopt a three-year Cooperation Program with JBIC and a "roadmap" with Sojitz Corporation to implement prospective projects in high-tech sectors of Uzbekistan’s economy.
