On 21 January 2025, a massive fire broke out at the hotel of the Kartalkaya ski resort, leading to tragic consequences. According to Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya, 10 people were killed, and 32 others were injured.
The fire started around 3:30 AM on the fourth floor of the 11-story building, where the restaurant was located. At the time of the incident, 234 people were inside the hotel. Bolu Province Governor Abdulaziz Aydın reported that two of the victims died after jumping from a window in an attempt to escape.
Thirty fire trucks and 28 ambulances were deployed to combat the fire, which took several hours to extinguish on the lower floors.
The cause of the fire has not yet been determined, but Turkish media reports suggest that the wooden facade cladding may have contributed to the rapid spread of the flames.
Turkish Minister of Health Kemal Memişoğlu, Minister of Culture and Tourism Mehmet Nuri Ersoy, and Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya arrived at the scene to coordinate efforts. Local prosecutors and police have launched an investigation into the circumstances of the tragedy.
