President of Kazakhstan ratifies the agreement with Uzbekistan on allied relations

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev signed the law “On the ratification of the Treaty between the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Republic of Uzbekistan on allied relations.”

The agreement was signed in Tashkent on 22 December 2022 during the state visit of the President of Kazakhstan to Uzbekistan.

It envisages the creation of a Supreme Interstate Council, led by heads of state, to discuss issues of foreign policy, security and transboundary waters.

The main goal of the agreement is to fully realize the potential of cooperation between countries in various fields, including expanding trade, attracting investment and developing cooperation in various sectors of the economy.

The document also stipulates the non-development of blocs or alliances directed against each other and cooperation in the military-technical sphere.

Countries undertake to create favorable conditions for economic cooperation and preservation of cultural proximity.

The treaty also regulates the use of transboundary rivers and consultation on the resolution of potential threats from third countries.

The contract is of unlimited duration and can only be terminated by agreement of the parties with 12 months notice.

It should be noted that at the end of 2023, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed a decree ratifying this agreement.
