Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 25 October, the Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis, Tanzila Narbaeva, held a meeting with the head of the European Union delegation to Uzbekistan, Ambassador Charlotte Adrian.

The discussions were based on filling relations between Uzbekistan and the European Union in the trade, economic and social spheres with practical content, strengthening inter-parliamentary ties, and promoting projects implemented in cooperation.

It was noted that trade turnover continues to grow steadily, promising projects are being implemented with leading European companies and banks on high-tech production and the creation of new jobs, and the “GSP +” regime has become a stimulating factor for the export of high-quality Uzbek goods to the European market.

During the meeting, special attention was paid to expanding the use of the capabilities of parliaments in bringing cooperation between Uzbekistan and the states of the European Union to a new level. In this regard, the importance of the dialogue organized within the framework of the European Union-Uzbekistan Parliamentary Cooperation Committee was noted.

An exchange of views took place regarding the progress of the EU cooperation project “Inter Pares” - “Parliaments in Cooperation”, established with the Senate of the Oliy Majlis.

It should be noted that “Inter Pares” is a global program of the European Union to strengthen parliamentarism, which is implemented by the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (IDEA) with expert support from the parliaments of EU partner countries. This project is established with the Parliament of Uzbekistan as the only partner among the Central Asian countries, and Hungary, Germany, Cyprus, Lithuania, Slovakia, France and the Czech Republic are partner countries.

The parties discussed in detail the priority aspects of the effective implementation of the project, and agreed on the tasks that need to be solved in each component of the practical dialogue, that is, financial control, gender equality issues, youth parliament, e-parliament.

Also during the dialogue, an agreement was reached to intensify relations with the European Union and its specialized departments in the implementation of joint projects and programs to support priority areas of regional cooperation, sustainable development, social support for the population and achievement of the SDGs.
