UNOPS supplies Uzbekistan with US$41 million worth of cancer equipment

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) has delivered modern cancer treatment equipment to Uzbekistan, valued at US$41 million.

UNOPS and the Government of Uzbekistan are implementing a project aimed at improving access to and the quality of oncology services in 13 regions and Tashkent. This initiative involves the procurement and installation of diagnostic, therapeutic, laboratory, radiological, and information-communication equipment.

The project is funded by a loan from the Islamic Development Bank.

As part of the project, the new Center for Oncology and Radiology in Tashkent has received state-of-the-art medical equipment from leading global manufacturers.

The goal of the project is to modernize cancer care in Uzbekistan. It aims to provide over 150,000 cancer patients with access to high-quality oncology services.

This initiative is expected to increase daily clinical services by 40% and improve inpatient services by 20%.

To date, UNOPS has supplied equipment worth more than US$41 million, including advanced diagnostic and radiotherapy equipment, as well as various other medical and IT devices.

By the end of 2024, additional equipment worth US$18 million will be supplied, including advanced body mapping technology and other specialized technologies.
