Uzbekistan’s retail trade volume reaches 154.62 trillion soums

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) – As of 1 July 2024, the number of commercial enterprises engaged in retail trade in Uzbekistan reached 88,541 units, including 324 large enterprises and 88,217 small enterprises and microfirms.

From January to June 2024, according to the Agency for Statistics of Uzbekistan, the volume of retail trade amounted to 154.62 trillion soums, an increase of 8.4% compared to the same period in 2023.

The turnover of large enterprises was 27.79 trillion soums (a growth rate of 9.4%), while small businesses and private entrepreneurship accounted for 126.82 trillion soums (a growth rate of 8.2%), including unorganized trade, which totaled 16.68 trillion soums (a growth rate of 14.1%).

Significant growth rates during the reviewed period were observed in Namangan (+9.8%), Tashkent (+9.4%), and Surkhandarya (+9.1%) regions, with increased retail trade growth rates.

In the structure of retail trade turnover, a significant share in January-June 2024 was noted in Tashkent city, amounting to 26.0%, or 40.21 trillion soums. The smallest share was recorded in Syrdarya region at 1.6%, or 2.47 trillion soums.

Compared to January-June 2023, an increase in retail trade growth rates was observed across all regions.

The turnover of small businesses and private entrepreneurship in retail trade in January-June 2024 amounted to 126.82 trillion soums, an increase of 8.2% compared to the same period in 2023. The share of this sector in the republic’s retail trade turnover reached 82.0%.

The turnover volume of large enterprises in retail trade in January-June 2024 increased by 14.0% compared to the same period in 2023, reaching 27.79 trillion soums, which constitutes 18.0% of the total turnover.

The share of small businesses and private entrepreneurship in retail trade turnover was the highest in the Republic of Karakalpakstan (97.1%), Surkhandarya (96.8%), and Khorezm (96.1%) regions. The turnover share of large enterprises was 18.0% of total sales, with the largest share observed in Tashkent city (45.0%), Samarkand (14.8%), Tashkent (14.2%), and Fergana (10.1%) regions.

Retail trade turnover per capita in the republic averaged 4.18 million soums in January-June 2024, an increase of 6.2% compared to the same period in 2023.

The highest volumes, compared to other regions, were recorded in Tashkent city (13.15 million soums), Navoi (5.38 million soums), and Tashkent (4.69 million soums) regions.

According to preliminary data from a survey of individuals, the turnover of unorganized trade in January-June 2024 amounted to 16.68 trillion soums, an increase of 14.1% compared to the same period in 2023. This included trade turnover at dehkan markets amounting to 8.41 trillion soums (an increase of 18.2%) and livestock market trade turnover at 8.27 trillion soums (a decrease of 10.2%).

A survey of individuals engaged in selling agricultural products (grown in personal subsidiary farms) conducted in all regions of the republic in January-June 2024 revealed that this type of trade turnover amounted to 8.41 trillion soums. High sales of fresh agricultural goods reached 3.82 trillion soums.

A survey of individuals engaged in selling birds and livestock (kept in personal subsidiary farms) in all regions of the republic in January-June 2024 showed that this type of trade turnover amounted to 8.27 trillion soums. Sales of various age livestock reached 6.53 trillion soums, sheep and goats – 1.35 trillion soums, horses – 238.3 billion soums, and birds – 32.2 billion soums.

As of 1 July 2024, the number of commercial enterprises engaged in public catering activities reached 24,709 units, including 82 large operating enterprises, and 24,627 small enterprises and microfirms.

In January-June 2024, the turnover of public catering enterprises amounted to 8.7 trillion soums, an increase of 11.5% compared to the same period in 2023, with 73.9% of trade turnover attributed to small business entities.

The highest volumes, compared to other regions, were recorded in Tashkent city (26.49 trillion soums), Jizzakh (5.96 trillion soums), and Tashkent (2.87 trillion soums) regions.

Wholesale and retail trade turnover of motor vehicles and their accessories (excluding motor vehicle maintenance and repair) in January-June 2024 amounted to 54.08 trillion soums, an increase of 18.5% compared to the same period in 2023. The turnover of large enterprises amounted to 21.15 trillion soums (a growth rate of 48.4%), and small businesses and private entrepreneurship – 32.93 trillion soums (a growth rate of 5.0%).

According to preliminary data, wholesale trade turnover in January-June 2024 reached 147.01 trillion soums, an increase of 10.6% compared to the same period in 2023.

The turnover of small business entities in wholesale trade amounted to 83.19 trillion soums, an increase of 8.6% compared to the same period in 2023. The share of this sector in the republic’s wholesale trade turnover was 70.5%.

As of July 1, 2024, the number of commercial enterprises engaged in wholesale trade reached 45,817 units, including 344 large operating enterprises and 45,473 small enterprises and microfirms.

In January-June 2024, the highest growth rates in wholesale trade turnover of large enterprises, compared to the same period in 2023, were observed in the Republic of Karakalpakstan (+73.0%), Samarkand (+63.9%), and Jizzakh (+42.7%) regions.
