Sergei Afontsev: the documents signed during the visit are like an “icebreaker”, breaking through new areas of cooperation

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) - Today in Tashkent, an online conference was held on the topic “Uzbekistan and Russia - searching for new vectors of mutually beneficial partnership”, organized by the Institute of Strategic and Interregional Studies under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan in partnership with the Institute of World Economy and International Relations named after E.M. Primakov of the Russian Academy of Sciences (IMEMO RAS).

In his welcoming speech, Deputy Director of IMEMO RAS Sergei Afontsev emphasized the importance of the event, taking place against the backdrop of a significant event - the visit of the President of the Russian Federation V. Putin to Uzbekistan.

In this context, the expert especially noted that “the 27 documents signed during the visit are like an icebreaker, breaking through new areas of cooperation.”

The Russian specialist identified the expansion of industrial cooperation as one of the most significant areas of the Uzbek-Russian partnership. 

According to him, “the agreements reached in this area will contribute to the transition from simple trade to trade based on deep cooperation, close interaction between companies in our countries, and the formation of value chains.” 

The Russian expert named the development of transit and logistics cooperation as another important area of bilateral cooperation. “The two states have made a colossal breakthrough in deepening transport connectivity. Further cooperation in this direction will have a positive impact both on the expansion of trade and economic relations and will open up opportunities for entering new markets,” the representative of IMEMO RAS is convinced. 

The event was attended by representatives of leading analytical and research centers of the two countries. The Uzbek side was represented by the heads of ISRS, the Institute of Macroeconomic and Regional Studies, the Information and Analytical Center for International Relations, the Center for Economic Research and Reforms, the Center for Progressive Reforms, the International Institute of Central Asia, and the Research Information Center.

The Russian side was represented by leaders and experts from IMEMO RAS.

The participants exchanged views on the current state and prospects for the development of relations between Uzbekistan and Russia in various fields. Experts paid special attention to the results of the visit of the Russian President to Uzbekistan.
