Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 14-15 May, the training “Promoting Women’s Leadership” is being held in Tashkent, organized by the National Center of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Human Rights together with the OSCE Project Coordinator in Uzbekistan.

The event serves as a platform to discuss innovative approaches to improve the position of women in various aspects of society, including the economic, political, educational and cultural sectors.

Representatives of the Supreme Court, the Prosecutor General’s Office, the Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the National Guard, and the Customs Committee is taking part in the training.

International expert on leadership and management development Elena Moll will act as a trainer at the event.

Uzbekistan has significant positive experience in implementing the provisions of the UN Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women. The First Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Director of the National Center for Human Rights Akmal Saidov spoke about this in detail in his welcoming address.

Particular attention was paid to Uzbekistan’s successes in implementing gender policies, including increasing the proportion of women in parliament, which currently exceeds 32%.

It is noted that strengthening the role of women in the country’s law enforcement agencies not only contributes to greater representation of women in critical areas of national security, but also enriches the decision-making process with a diversity of perspectives. This approach, as A. Saidov emphasized, is key to the implementation of the principles of equality and justice, which are the foundation for the sustainable development of the state.

Today, about 2 thousand women specialists work in management positions at various levels in the country, which is about 37% and this figure is growing.

Such progress, emphasized in the speech, became possible thanks to a series of legislative initiatives aimed at protecting women’s rights and strengthening their social status, adopted at the initiative of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

In recent years, a number of key legislative acts have been adopted, including: the law “On guarantees of equal rights and opportunities for women and men”, which ensures equal access to resources and opportunities in the educational, labor and social spheres, the law “On the protection of women from oppression and violence”, which provides a set of measures to prevent and combat violence against women.

At the end of his speech, A. Saidov called on all seminar participants to actively implement the acquired knowledge and practices in order to continue moving towards full gender equality in Uzbekistan.

As noted by Andrew Yukovsky, International Advisor to the OSCE Project Coordinator in Uzbekistan, in 2000 the UN Security Council finally adopted its first historic resolution on women, peace and security. UNSCR 1325 is perceived as an instrument and a standard because it marks the first time that the Security Council has recognized the importance of women’s full participation in maintaining and promoting peace and security.

International expert Elena Moll particularly focused on the strategic importance of the initiative: “Promoting Women’s Leadership.” According to her, this training not only contributes to the development of participants’ competencies, but also creates a unique platform for the multidisciplinary exchange of knowledge and experience, as well as for the formation of best practices between women leaders in various industries.

As part of the training, international and national experts in the field of promoting women’s leadership share their knowledge and experience. They highlight key aspects and challenges women face as they move into leadership roles in different regions of the world.

During the discussions, successful practices and strategies are examined, as well as examples of the effective implementation of norms and legislative measures aimed at strengthening the position of women in society, increasing their influence in the political, economic and social spheres.

Participation in the event helps strengthen the professional skills of representatives of law enforcement agencies who are actively working to promote women’s leadership.
