Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) – An MP of the partliament of Uzbekistan proposed banning the provision of public services to citizens who do not know the Uzbek language. This proposal was voiced by the leader of the Milliy Tiklanish party and vice-speaker of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis Alisher Kadyrov.

This statement was a reaction to the statement of the Chairman of the Russian State Duma, Vyacheslav Volodin, who emphasized the importance of knowing the Russian language for those who come to work in Russia.

Alisher Kadyrov agreed with Vyacheslav Volodin that knowledge of the Russian language is necessary to work in Russia. However, he noted that a similar requirement should apply to Russians living in Uzbekistan.

“Citizens of all nationalities living in Uzbekistan must know the Uzbek language,” Kadyrov said.

He emphasized that the Uzbek language should be defined in legislation as mandatory.

In his opinion, ignorance of the Uzbek language should make it impossible not only to work in the civil service, but also to receive government services.
