Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev reviewed the presentation of plans for the construction of highways.

Uzbekistan is working to develop a network of international and local roads to ensure the convenience and safety of traffic. One of the projects implemented with the participation of the Asian Development Bank is the construction of internal roads with cement concrete pavement. This project involves the construction of 841 kilometers of roads in the Republic of Karakalpakstan and 86 districts of the regions, which will improve the infrastructure and life of more than 770 thousand people. Resources for the implementation of the project will be allocated from the Asian Development Bank (US$240 million).

Particular attention was paid to the quality and safety of construction, so the work will be performed exclusively by domestic contractors and engineers. After the roads are put into operation, the main contractor will ensure their maintenance and operation for 5 years.

Another project aims to reconstruct a section of the M39 international highway “Alma-Ata – Bishkek – Tashkent – Shakhrisabz – Termez” from 1255 to 1315 kilometers... As part of this project, it is planned to build 60 kilometers of a four-lane road with cement concrete pavement and a new bypass road around the center of Dekhkanabad district. These works will be financed by the Islamic Development Bank and the OPEC Fund for International Development for US$154million.

The Decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan from 10 October 2023 determined the task of revising the list of public roads. The document also approved a list of highways with a length of 20 kilometers in the Republic of Karakalpakstan and each region, the operation of which is being outsourced to the private sector as an experiment.

The presentation provides information about the work done in this direction and plans for the current year.

The President also noted the need for high-quality road construction, the creation of forest plantations along the streets to improve the environment and the development of transport infrastructure in rural areas.
