Additional measures are being taken to protect children from violence

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- A new draft law on the prevention of all forms of violence against children was approved in the first reading by deputies of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis on 27 February.

According to the draft law, the number of types of violence against children doubles and includes not only physical, sexual and mental but also neglect (lack of care), exploitation and bullying.

Protection orders will be issued for children who have been victims of violence.

The document also defines the responsibilities of parents or guardians to ensure the safety, health, care and protection of children from harmful information.

The draft law prohibits the use of physical punishment of children for educational or educational purposes.

Deputies identified a risk category that includes children most vulnerable to violence: orphans, street children, children with intellectual or mental problems, children engaged in prostitution or begging.

Children at risk will be monitored and receive individual assistance to prevent violence against them.

In addition, the law establishes that the basis for taking measures to protect children may be messages on the Internet and the media, statements from the injured party, legal entities or citizens.
