Iran’s First VP urges expansion of ties with Uzbekistan
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Iranian First Vice-President Mohammad Reza Rahimi called for new and long strides to bolster Iran-Uzbekistan ties, reminding the Central Asian country’s regional and international support for the Islamic Republic of Iran.

"Existence of abundant common interests between Iran and Uzbekistan, and also the two sides’ brotherhood and friendliness necessitate expansion of the two countries’ ties in all fields," Rahimi said in a meeting with Uzbek Deputy Prime Minister Elyar Ganiev in Tehran on Monday.

Pointing to age-old and friendly ties between Tehran and Tashkent, Rahimi stressed that there reside no impediment to the expansion of bilateral ties between the two states.

Meantime, Rahimi cautioned that some states intend to undermine the two countries’ ties, and added, "Both countries should be aware of the enemies and ill-wishers’ plots and should be vigilant in order not to allow enemies disrupt their ties."

He further underlined the importance of Uzbekistan as a member of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) for Iran’s closer ties with the SCO, Fars News Agency reported.

During the meeting, Ganiev reiterated the Central Asian state’s stance against the Zionist regime of Israel, and said that Tashkent supports Iran’s stances in all fields, including access to nuclear technology and campaign against terrorism.
