More than a thousand popular books to be translated into Uzbek

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) - Presidential Resolution “On measures to implement the project “A Thousand Books for Youth” was adopted.

To create a system for translating popular books in the world into Uzbek, and to become closely acquainted with the latest achievements of modern science, the Agency for Youth Affairs under the Ministry of Youth Policy and Sports is implementing the “A Thousand Books for Youth” project.

In the project’s boundaries:

work on acquiring the right to use works from authors, translation into Uzbek, preparation for printing and publication of books on the basis of state orders is carried out at the expense of the State Budget (with the exception of books published for state higher educational institutions);

the list of books intended for public universities is compiled by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Innovation, and their publishing is carried out at the expense of extra-budgetary funds of higher educational institutions;

to support publishing houses selected for government orders on loans from commercial banks at the expense of the Entrepreneurship Development Company JSC, they are provided with compensation and guarantees specified for small businesses.

Translation into Uzbek and publication of popular books in the world are carried out in stages:

at stage I – the Expert Council annually forms a preliminary list of books;

at stage II - the preliminary list is placed in the information system of the Agency for Youth Affairs for selection by the population by voting, and thus a final list is formed, which is reviewed and approved by the Expert Council.

It is also planned to create and ensure the continuous functioning of a special mobile application that accumulates literature in the Uzbek language and provides the population with free access.
