Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- According to preliminary data from the Statistics Agency, as of 1 November 2023, the number of commercial enterprises operating in the retail trade sector reached 96,664 units, of which the number of operating large enterprises amounted to 313 units, and small enterprises and micro-firms - 96,351. 

Retail trade turnover at the end of January-October 2023 reached 234.69 trillion soums and increased, compared to the same period in 2022, by 7.3%, also the turnover of large enterprises amounted to 42.72 trillion soums (growth rate - 17 .3%), and small businesses and private entrepreneurship – 167.58 trillion soums (growth rate - 4.8%), including unorganized trade amounted to 24.39 trillion soums (growth rate - 9.3%).

Compared to January-October 2022, significant growth rates during the period under review were noted in Tashkent (10.8%), Namangan (7.0%) and Samarkand (6.7%) regions, in which an increase in growth rates was observed retail.

Over the past five years (2019 – 2023), high growth rates of retail trade turnover were noted in 2022 and this figure amounted to 11.7%. The lowest growth was recorded in 2020 with a growth rate of 1.2%.

In the structure of retail trade turnover, a significant share is noted in the city of Tashkent, which amounts to 26.0%, or 60.98 trillion soums. The smallest share was recorded at 1.6%, or 3.79 trillion soums, which was observed in Syrdarya region.

Compared to the corresponding period in 2022, during the period under review, an increase in growth rates in retail trade was noted in all regions.

Retail trade turnover of small businesses and private entrepreneurship, according to statistical calculations, in January-October 2023 amounted to 191.97 trillion soums and, compared to the same period in 2022, increased by 5.4%. The share of this sector in the republic in retail trade turnover reached 81.8%.

The share of small businesses and private entrepreneurship, compared to other regions, was greatest in the Surkhandarya region (97.0%), the Republic of Karakalpakstan (96.6%) and the Kashkadarya region (95.1%). In the structure of retail trade turnover, the share of turnover of large enterprises amounted to 18.2% of total sales, their main share was observed in Tashkent (44.5%), Samarkand (20.0%), Tashkent (14.8%) and Ferghana (8.3%) regions.

The highest volume, compared to other regions, was recorded in Tashkent city (20.4 million soums), Navoi (8.08 million soums) and Tashkent (7.1 million soums) regions.

According to preliminary data from a survey of individuals, the turnover of unorganized trade in January-October 2023 amounted to 24.38 trillion soums and, compared to the same period in 2022, it increased by 9.3%. Including trade turnover in dekhkan markets amounted to 11.99 trillion soums (an increase was 18.1%), trade turnover in livestock markets was recorded at 12.39 trillion soums (a decrease was 1.9%).

In January-October 2023, a survey of individuals engaged in the sale of agricultural products (grown on private plots) was conducted in all regions of the republic, as a result of which the turnover of this type of trade amounted to 11.99 trillion soums. High sales of fresh agricultural goods reached 5.43 trillion soums.

In January-October 2023, a survey of individuals involved in the sale of poultry and livestock (kept on private farms) was conducted in all regions of the republic, as a result of which the turnover of this type of trade amounted to 12.39 trillion soums. Sales of livestock of different ages reached 9.91 trillion soums, sheep and goats – 2.04 trillion soums, horses - 384.6 billion soums, birds - 56.1 billion soums.

As of 1 November 2023, the number of commercial enterprises operating in the public catering sector amounted to 25,342 units, of which the number of large operating enterprises was 77 units, and the number of small enterprises and micro-firms reached 25,265.

In January-October 2023, the turnover of public catering enterprises amounted to 11.6 trillion soums and increased, compared to the same period in 2022, by 10.4%, of which 72.6% of trade turnover accounted for small businesses.

The turnover of wholesale and retail trade in motor vehicles and their accessories (except for the maintenance and repair of motor vehicles) for January-October 2023 amounted to 60.35 trillion soums and increased, compared to the same period in 2022, by 23.2%, Also, the turnover of large enterprises amounted to 26.41 trillion soums (growth rate - 10.0%), and small businesses and private entrepreneurship – 33.94 trillion soums (growth rate - 36.0%).

According to preliminary data, in January-October 2023, the volume of wholesale trade turnover reached 227.15 trillion soums and, compared to the same period in 2022, increased by 12.5%.

The turnover of wholesale trade of small businesses, according to statistical calculations, amounted to 164.13 trillion soums and, compared to the corresponding period in 2022, increased by 8.7%. The share of this sector in the wholesale trade turnover in the republic was 72.3%.

As of 1 November 2023, the number of commercial enterprises operating in the field of wholesale trade amounted to 48,439 units, of which the number of large operating enterprises was 340, small enterprises and micro-firms - – 48,099.

In January-October 2023, the highest growth rates of wholesale trade turnover of large enterprises, compared to the same period in 2022, were observed in Syrdarya (2.1 times), Samarkand (1.9 times) and Ferghana (1.3 times) regions.
