Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Death toll from multiple earthquakes in western Afghanistan rises to 2,053. Official representative of the Afghan National Disaster Management Authority Mullah Janan Sheik announced this on Sunday, Xinhua reports.
Speaking at a press conference in the city of Herat, the official noted that another 9,240 people were injured and 1,340 houses were destroyed as a result of the earthquakes that occurred on Saturday in Herat province and the neighboring provinces of Badghis and Farah.
Afghanistan was hit by two magnitude 6.2 earthquakes on Saturday, followed by several aftershocks, according to the China Seismic Network Center.
