Norov holds talks with the director of the OSCE/ODIHR

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 1 December 2022, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan Vladimir Norov met with Director of the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE/ODIHR) Matteo Mecacci in Lodz.

Topical issues of interaction between Uzbekistan and the OSCE/ODIHR were discussed, proposals were considered to expand constructive cooperation between our country and the Office.

The parties noted with satisfaction that in recent years Uzbekistan’s cooperation with the ODIHR has significantly expanded. Full-scale missions of the Bureau took part in the parliamentary (2019) and presidential elections (2016 and 2021). An interdepartmental expert group has been established and is successfully functioning in Uzbekistan to study the recommendations of the ODIHR and develop proposals for their application.

High appreciation was given to the assistance rendered by the Bureau in the development and successful evaluation of drafts of a number of normative acts. An exchange of views took place on further close dialogue on the assessment of Uzbekistan’s lawmaking, analysis of its compliance with international standards.
