Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 6 October 2022, Romania and the Republic of Uzbekistan celebrate the 27th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations. Please accept my sincere congratulations on this significant date! I wish prosperity, fruitful development and mutually beneficial relations between our countries!
Our relationship is built on a solid foundation. I fully share the opinion of the President of Uzbekistan that there are ample opportunities for the development of practical cooperation between Romania and the Republic of Uzbekistan.
The ongoing reforms in Uzbekistan open up good prospects for expanding dialogue and contacts in all areas. Constitutional changes in Uzbekistan are a guarantee of the irreversibility of reforms. I have already spoken on this topic at the International Conference "Implementation of the constitutional principle "man - society - state": national and international experience" (on 20 June 2022 in Urgench). The main wealth of the Republic of Uzbekistan is not gold or cotton, but its wonderful people.
There is great potential for bilateral trade and economic cooperation. According to data published by the State Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan on Statistics, the volume of trade between Romania and Uzbekistan for the first 8 months of 2022 (January-August 2022) increased by 93.04% compared to the same period in 2021 (January-August 2021). This is very important bearing in mind that the volume of trade between Romania and Uzbekistan in 2021 increased by 30.83% compared to 2020.
Romania supports the strengthening of cooperation between the European Union and Uzbekistan. I look forward to the EU-Central Asia Conference on Sustainable Connectivity in Samarkand (on 18 November 2022) with great interest.
The international transport route Caspian Sea - Black Sea is a strategic project.
Romania pays special attention to the development of relations with the Republic of Uzbekistan in the field of culture. There are a lot of joint achievements here. In January of this year, the Embassy of Romania in Tashkent and the National Library of Uzbekistan named after Alisher Navoi organized the exhibition "Romania’s Contribution to the World Heritage". In February 2022, the Tashkent House of Photography and the Embassy of Romania in Uzbekistan held a photo exhibition together about the work of the great sculptor Constantin Brâncuși. In March of this year, the Embassy of Romania presented the national traditions of the holiday of welcoming spring "Martisor" at the British School in Tashkent. Also in March of this year, the French Alliance in Tashkent hosted a screening of a wonderful documentary film "Wild Romania", which reveals the beauty of the nature of Romania.
In June 2022, the Museum of Applied Arts of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Embassy of Romania organized an exhibition of national Romanian costumes dedicated to the Day of the Romanian blouse. On 6 September 2022, the ceremony of handing over Romanian books was held at the National Library of Uzbekistan named after Alisher Navoi. On 15-16 September 2022, the Days of Romanian Cinema were held as part of the XIV Tashkent International Film Festival "Pearl of the Silk Road". On 24 September 2022, the Embassy of Romania took part in the XVIII Charity Festival of Cultural Traditions and National Dishes among diplomatic missions and international organizations accredited in the Republic of Uzbekistan and became the winner in the nomination "For the best tourist presentation".
The health sector is also of very high importance. On 7 September 2022, in the city of Termez, I participated in the transfer ceremony with the help of UNICEF of medical equipment purchased at the expense of the Romanian Agency for International Development RoAid for the Surkhandarya Regional Children’s Multidisciplinary Center.
I look to the future with optimism. Together we can reach new heights. In physical terms, I have already become the first Ambassador who conquered a peak above 4000 meters in Uzbekistan, namely the peak of Hazrat Sultan (4083 meters) in Kashkadarya region. This was an important public diplomacy event of the Embassy of Romania in Tashkent on the occasion of the celebration of 160 years of Romanian diplomacy and the 31st anniversary of the independence of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
I express my gratitude to the Uzbek side for fruitful cooperation.
Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Romania to the Republic of Uzbekistan
Daniel Christian Ciobanu
