Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- An international conference “Vectors of cultural and humanitarian cooperation within the framework of the SCO was held today in Tashkent. It was organized by the Center for Public Diplomacy of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.
The event was attended by the heads and representatives of the SCO Secretariat, the Eurasian Peoples’ Assembly, the Committee for Good Neighborliness, Friendship and Cooperation of the People’s Republic of China, the Indian Council for International Affairs, the Pakistan Institute for Peace and Diplomatic Studies, the Assembly of the Peoples of Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan, the SCO Center for Friendship and Cooperation in Tajikistan, the SCO Center for Cultural Integration in Kyrgyzstan, heads of diplomatic missions of foreign countries, ethno-cultural centers and international organizations.
The conference participants discussed the results achieved in the cultural and humanitarian sphere during the period of Uzbekistan’s chairmanship in the SCO. Particular attention was paid to the formation of a "Roadmap" for the implementation of the agreements following the Samarkand summit of the Organization, primarily in the fields of science, culture, tourism, education and sports.
An exchange of views took place on new areas of cooperation within the framework of the SCO.
The participants of the conference were also able to get acquainted with the photo exhibition dedicated to the activities of the Organization.
In his speech at the forum, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan Erkin Khamraev emphasized that the Samarkand SCO summit completed the successful chairmanship of Uzbekistan in the organization. This was confirmed by the holding of more than 100 events at various levels, including a number of cultural and humanitarian events.
It was noted that there is a significant potential for enhancing cultural and humanitarian contacts between the countries that are members of the SCO.
At the last SCO Summit in Samarkand, important agreements were reached in the field of developing cooperation in the field of culture and tourism between the countries of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. The leaders of the SCO member states unanimously supported the initiative of Uzbekistan to declare next year the Year of Tourism in the SCO space. This will give a chance to become more deeply acquainted with the material and spiritual history of the peoples of the large "SCO family".
The hope was expressed that the SCO Public Diplomacy Center in Uzbekistan and the Silk Road International Tourism University in Samarkand, established by the Uzbek side, will fully contribute to the practical filling of the SCO tourism and cultural cooperation agenda in the coming year.
In addition, at the initiative of the Head of Uzbekistan, it is planned to launch digital platforms for intercultural dialogue - virtual museums and creative exhibitions, scientific video conferences that will help bring our peoples closer together, including through the active involvement of young people in such projects.
