Rodrigo de Lima Baena Soares: "We are in favor of further strengthening the interaction of all five BRICS member countries"

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 7 September, the Embassy of Brazil in Moscow hosted a reception on the occasion of Brazil’s Independence Day.

Among the guests of honor are plenipotentiary ambassadors, diplomats from different countries, Russian and foreign cultural figures, scientists, representatives of business circles - Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia Sergey Ryabkov, head of the APEX Brasil office in Russia Almir Ribeiro Americo, TV BRICS CEO Janna Tolstikova and others dignitaries.

In an exclusive interview with TV BRICS, Rodrigo de Lima Baena Soares, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federative Republic of Brazil to the Russian Federation, explained what the word "independence" means for his country.

“Today is a special day. Today we celebrate the 200th anniversary of Brazilian independence and the birth of Brazil as a sovereign state. Over the past time, a democratic, free, multicultural and multinational society has been created,” said Rodrigo de Lima Baena Soares. He noted that Brazil has always stood up for the multilateral agenda of international relations. “We believe that a multilateral agenda is the best response to all the crises facing the international community. We stand for the strengthening of the United Nations as a whole, as well as its specialized agencies and bodies, therefore our policies and actions are aimed at making the world more democratic,” said Rodrigo de Lima Baena Soares.

The Brazilian Ambassador to Russia added that cooperation within the BRICS framework is very important for the country. “We stand for the development of both political and economic ties, one example is the BRICS New Development Bank, whose resources Brazil has already managed to use in full. And also within the framework of this organization, we are in favor of further strengthening the interaction of all five member countries of this community,” the diplomat said in an exclusive interview with TV BRICS.

“Our country has been connected with Brazil for almost 195 years of diplomatic relations, and at the celebration dedicated to the 200th anniversary of the independence of this country, a lot was said about this. There were different stages of our relations, but the result of their development is always positive. We did not have periods when the relationship collapsed. Now they are on the rise. We cooperate with this wonderful country on many international platforms – from the UN Security Council, where Brazil will serve as a non-permanent member next year, to multilateral institutions in various fields: healthcare, transport, of course, BRICS. Multilateral cooperation in this format is one of the remarkable pages in Russian-Brazilian relations over the past decade and a half. We have an in-depth political dialogue, rich cultural cooperation, and many joint projects in various fields. There is a certain tourist exchange, which, of course, has weakened against the backdrop of covid, but now, I think, it will be restored, so everything is positive for us,” said Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia Sergey Ryabkov.
