Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 5 August 2022, a ceremony was held at the residence of the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Uzbekistan, Yoshinori Fujiyama to award the diploma of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan to the former director of the Bolshoi Theater named after Alisher Navoi Muratova Mahmud (now - Deputy Chairman of the Republican Council of Trade Unions of Workers of Culture, Sports and Tourism).
At the ceremony, Ambassador Fujiyama congratulated Mahmud Muratov on this award, praising his merits, and expressed gratitude for the efforts in expanding the base of understanding of Japan in Uzbekistan, as well as cultivating a sense of closeness between the peoples of the two countries.
In his welcoming speech, the Ambassador noted that on the initiative of Mr. Muratov, a number of projects to introduce Japanese culture were implemented at the Navoi Theater, which were a huge success and became a bright cultural event demonstrating the friendship between Japan and Uzbekistan.
In his response speech, Muratov Mahmud said: “This diploma of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan is a high assessment of the activities of the entire staff of the Bolshoi Theater, opera and ballet art of Uzbekistan. I hope that the staff of the Bolshoi Theater together with the Embassy of Japan will continue to actively implement large creative projects and make efforts to maintain friendly relations at a high level.”
The Certificate of Appreciation from the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan is intended to recognize the particularly significant merits of individuals and organizations in the field of strengthening friendly ties between Japan and other countries.
In the period from February 2015 to October 2021, Muratov Mahmud, being the director of the Bolshoi Theater named after Alisher Navoi, who is a symbol of historical and friendly relations between Japan and Uzbekistan, both to the residents of Uzbekistan and to guests from other countries, spoke widely about the activities of Japanese internees who at that time took part in the construction of the theater.
In addition, on his initiative, a number of projects were implemented in the Bolshoi Theater to get acquainted with Japanese culture. Muratov made a great contribution to expanding the base of understanding of Japan in Uzbekistan, in cultivating a sense of closeness between the peoples of the two countries and promoted mutual understanding between Japan and Uzbekistan.
