Collaboration in the field of health is the key to sustainable development

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic in 2020 very clearly highlighted the need to strengthen cooperation in the areas of epidemiological safety and healthcare. The world community has realized the importance of building up cooperation both on the exchange of information and experience between medical workers and on joint scientific research.
At the same time, it should be recognized that the partnership in the field of public health traditionally occupied a somewhat secondary place, was not the flagship of international cooperation.
Since 2020, this area has received increased attention at all levels. The spread of the coronavirus has shown the whole world that it is the sanitary and epidemiological situation that is the cornerstone of sustainable development not only of individual states, but of the entire world community, and has also demonstrated the importance of joint action.
From the very beginning of the pandemic, the countries of Central Asia and China have shown themselves to be truly strategic partners. So, in February 2020, Uzbekistan sent humanitarian aid to China, including medical products, to support the efforts of the Chinese side to combat the spread of coronavirus. China, in turn, has repeatedly provided active assistance to the Uzbek people in the most difficult periods of the coronavirus pandemic.
One of the important achievements of our cooperation was the launch of joint production of a vaccine against coronavirus. As the President of Uzbekistan noted in his speech at the meeting of the heads of state of Central Asia and China, the issue was launched in an extremely short time.
The mutual recognition of vaccination passports initiated by the President of Uzbekistan is intended to be an important step towards a return to normal life.
Today, the creation of effective mechanisms for cooperation in the field of healthcare, including the fight against infectious diseases continues to be extremely relevant.
In particular, the Director General of the World Health Organization Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus stated that, as history shows, the current pandemic will not be the last.
With this in mind, the proposal of the President of Uzbekistan to increase cooperation in pharmaceuticals, traditional medicine, as well as to improve the qualifications of doctors and establish partnerships between specialized hospitals meets the long-term interests of all parties. This will allow us not only to cope with the current pandemic, but also to prepare for possible ones.
It should also be noted that China is one of the most promising partners in the healthcare sector. A clear confirmation of this is how effectively the country managed to resist the pandemic. In the shortest possible time, the spread of the coronavirus was brought under control.
In conclusion, I would like to note that in the new realities, interaction in the field of public health and ensuring sanitary and epidemiological safety is becoming an important area of international cooperation. The development of this area lays the foundation for long-term sustainable development.
