Prime Minister of Uzbekistan Abdulla Aripov

The government commission to study the reasons behind the blackout in Uzbekistan

25/01/2022 19:18

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- A government commission chaired by the Prime Minister has been established in Uzbekistan to investigate the causes of the blackout and develop a plan to prevent similar situations in the future.

The President of Uzbekistan instructed to create a Government Commission. Based on the results of the commission’s work, information will be officially published.

The situation with the country’s electricity supply is under the personal control of Shavkat Mirziyoyev, Presidential Press Secretary Sherzod Asadov said.

According to him, the head of state is reported "almost every minute" on the work to stabilize the energy system of Uzbekistan.

At 10:57 today, as a result of a major accident in the unified energy system of Central Asia, power outages occurred in the regions of our country.

The Uzbek energy system, being part of a unified regional energy system, has an accident protection system at the Tashkent and Syrdarya thermal power plants (TPP), which, in the event of a threat, automatically turns off both stations. Their shutdown, in turn, had a negative impact on the operation of the Talimarjan and Turakurgan TPPs.

As a result, power outages were recorded in Ferghana and Tashkent regions, the Ferghana Valley, Syrdarya, Jizzakh, Samarkand, Bukhara, Kashkadarya regions.

It should be noted that the energy system of Uzbekistan operates in parallel with the energy system of Central Asia. Malfunctions observed in one or another area of the system can save other areas from an accident or, conversely, adversely affect its stable operation. The emergency relay protection and automation system is a technical and engineering condition implemented to ensure the stability of the power system, preventing various malfunctions and fires in the system.

At present, the energy supply of the energy system begins to be carried out through the Charvak, Khodzhikent and Tavaksai hydroelectric power plants in Tashkent region, the Navoi thermal power plant in Navoi region, the Takhiatash thermal power plant in the Republic of Karakalpakstan and the Fergana thermal power plant in Ferghana region.

The supply of electricity to the regions of the country is now gradually being restored.

Electricity supply has now been fully restored in the Republic of Karakalpakstan and the Khorezm region.

Also, power supply was partially restored in the city of Tashkent, Fergana, Andijan, Surkhandarya and Tashkent regions.

Currently, there is a phased restoration of electricity supply in the regions of the country.
