Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The astronomical work "The Book of Fixed Stars" is a unique manuscript that contains undeniable evidence that it was created by order of the outstanding son of the Uzbek land, Mirzo Ulugbek. The authenticity and historical value of the manuscript is beyond doubt - it contains a miniature depicting Mirzo Ulugbek in the form of the constellation Cepheus, circular inscriptions in gold ink and other signs of belonging to the library of the "scientist on the throne".
Within the framework of the V International Congress "Cultural Heritage of Uzbekistan - the Foundation of the New Renaissance", a presentation of the pilot issue of the facsimile edition of this rare ancient manuscript, made specially by order of the great ruler and scientist Mirzo Ulugbek, will take place.
A facsimile of this ancient manuscript was made by the Austrian publishing house Mueller & Shindler in cooperation with the World Society for the Study, Preservation and Popularization of the Cultural Heritage of Uzbekistan within the framework of the project “Cultural Heritage of Uzbekistan in the World Collections”.
The author of the work is the famous astronomer and astrologer of the Χ century Abd ar-Rahman ibn Umar al-Sufi. In medieval astronomy "The Book of Fixed Stars" became a truly epochal work, and, of course, helped the scientist Ulugbek, who worked on the creation of his own astronomical tables. This manuscript belonged personally to Mirzo Ulugbek, and contains notes made by his hand.
This manuscript is in the collection of the National Library of France.
“We have been cooperating with the National Library of France for several years, and the facsimile of the Book of Fixed Stars is the second edition, which is the result of our partnership. Before that, we created a facsimile copy of the famous religious and philosophical work "Mirajname". We are infinitely happy that with the personal support of the President of Uzbekistan, the Austrian publishing house Mueller & Shindler, the dreams of scientists from all over the world become a reality, because this is very important for the preservation of the richest cultural heritage of our country. Also, on behalf of the World Society, I would like to express my gratitude to the Embassy of Uzbekistan in France and the oil service company Eriell Group for their assistance in the implementation of the project. The value of facsimile editions is that they almost one hundred percent create an idea of what the original manuscript looked like,” said Firdavs Abdukhalikov, Chairman of the Board of the World Society for the Study, Preservation and Popularization of the Cultural Heritage of Uzbekistan.
He added that six facsimile editions of the greatest manuscripts have already been produced by the World Society and Mueller & Shindler. Among them - the Cattalangar Quran from the collections of the Institute of Oriental Manuscripts of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the description of the life and work of the great ruler and commander Amir Temur "Zafarname", Hussein Baykara’s Divan, the manuscript "Mirajname", "Temur tuzuklari". All facsimiles are donated to museums and libraries of Uzbekistan.
