The holding of the next Uzbek-Russian conference of such a high level is due to the high interest of the expert community in Uzbekistan. The country occupies a special place in the Central Asian region, with the largest population, a powerful export-oriented production potential and an impressive military force.
In recent years, relations between Uzbekistan and Russia have steadily developed along an upward trajectory. Political and diplomatic ties have acquired a true confidential nature of alliance and strategic partnership. The trade turnover slightly decreased in the pandemic 2020 to the level of US$ 5.6 billion, nevertheless, it is 1.5 times higher than in 2016. For the first half of 2021, trade volume already amounted to US$ 3.7 billion, showing an increase of 30% over the same period last year. Long-term plans for the development of industrial cooperation between the two countries will further increase the volume of mutual trade.
This trend is supported by indicators of economic interaction. Over the past four years, the number of enterprises with Russian capital in Uzbekistan has grown from 915 to almost 3 thousand. Even in 2020, the pandemic launched 240 enterprises with Russian capital.
To date, the Economic Cooperation Program for 2019-2024 is being actively implemented, as well as more than 800 trade and investment agreements and memorandums worth US$25 billion.
These and many other processes that form the basis of Uzbek-Russian relations are planned to be considered at the upcoming conference, which will consist of opening and closing sessions, three thematic sessions:
I. Reforms and Development in Central Asia: Approaches of Russia and Uzbekistan. Humanitarian aspects of bilateral interaction.
II. Regional security: external and internal factors.
III. International trade and integration in Central Eurasia
The opening of the conference, the first session, as well as the closing will be available to the media and a wide audience and will be broadcast online.
Within the framework of the conference, the Valdai Club will present a new report entitled "The Iron Frame of Eurasia: Achievements, Problems and Prospects for Continental Connectivity", prepared with the assistance of ISMI. This analytical material is devoted to transport and logistics issues in Eurasia with an emphasis on the development of railway communication.
At the end of 2021, the Valdai Club plans to release a report on Russian policy towards the post-Soviet space over the past 30 years. The conference in Tashkent will serve as one of the most important intellectual sources for the completion of this work.
