Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- In January-June 2021, Uzbekistan’s foreign trade turnover reached US$18.01 billion, which, compared to the same period in 2020, increased by US$2.15 billion (an increase of 13.6%), the State Statistics Committee of Uzbekistan said.
Of the total volume of the FTT, exports amounted to US$7.05 billion (an increase of 12.3% was noted by January-June 2020), and imports - US$10.96 billion (an increase of 14.3%). As a result, the balance of foreign trade turnover amounted to a passive balance in the amount of US$3.9 billion.
The largest volume of foreign trade turnover was recorded in May 2021 and was recorded at US$4.25 billion. Compared to the same month in 2020, its increase amounted to US$2.07 billion.
In June 2021, the volume of foreign trade turnover amounted to US$3.44 billion and, compared to the same period in 2020, decreased by 15.1%.
Among the 20 large partner countries in foreign economic activity, there is also an active foreign trade balance with six countries, in particular with such countries as Afghanistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkey, Canada and Iran. The remaining 14 countries maintain a passive balance of foreign trade turnover.
Today Uzbekistan carries out trade relations with 171 countries of the world. The largest volume of foreign trade turnover was recorded with the PRC (18.2%), the Russian Federation (17.0%), Kazakhstan (10.4%), Turkey (8.7%), the Republic of Korea (4.6%), Kyrgyzstan (2.4%) and Afghanistan (2.0%).
In the structure of the foreign trade turnover of the republic, a significant share is noted in the city of Tashkent, which is 38.6%, or US$6.95 billion, and the smallest share is recorded at the level of 1.1%, or US$202.7 million, which is marked in Surkhandarya region.
The volume of foreign trade turnover of other states in January-June 2021, compared to the same period of 2019-2020, accordingly decreased and amounted to 63.0% of the total volume of foreign trade turnover.
The foreign trade turnover of the Republic of Uzbekistan with the CIS countries reached US$6.66 billion. Of these, the volume of exports amounted to US$2.27 billion, and the volume of imports – US$4.39 billion.
The foreign trade turnover of the Republic of Uzbekistan with the EAEU countries amounted to US$5.55 billion. Of these, the volume of exports amounted to US$1.77 billion, and the volume of imports - US$3.78 billion.
In January-June 2021, the total number of exporters amounted to 4 885 units, which ensured the increase in the volume of exports without gold to US$5.67 billion (an increase, compared to the same period in 2020, amounted to 36.4%).
In the structure of exports, 83.9% are goods, which mainly fall on industrial goods (28.8%), food products and live animals (8.4%), chemicals and similar products (6.6%).
The largest export volume was recorded in May 2021 and was recorded at the level of US$2.25 billion. Compared to the same month in 2020, its increase amounted to US$1.52 billion.
In June 2021, the volume of exports amounted to US$1.32 billion and, compared to the same period in 2020, increased by 5.8%.
Exports of Uzbekistan in the second quarter of 2021 amounted to US$4.65 billion, which is 94.2% more than the previous quarterly indicator.
Due to a decrease in exports to other foreign countries, the share of exports to the CIS countries increased and their share in its total volume amounted to 32.2%.
Compared to 2019-2020, our main partners in the export of goods and services in foreign trade in January-June 2021 were such countries as China, Turkey, the Russian Federation, Kazakhstan, Afghanistan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan. Their share in the total export volume reached 59.1%.
In the structure of the republic’s exports, a significant share was noted in the city of Tashkent, which is 24.6%, or US$1.73 billion, and the smallest share was recorded at 1.3%, or US$92.8 million, which was recorded in Jizzakh region.
The volume of exports of fruits and vegetables amounted to 716.8 thousand tons and, in value terms, exceeded US$402.7 million (the rate of decline, compared to the same period in 2020, respectively, amounted to 3.1%). On the basis of this, 520.6 thousand tons of vegetables were exported in the amount of 209.6 million US dollars, as well as 132.2 thousand tons of fruits and berries in the amount of 142.4 million US dollars.
In January-June 2021, the share of fruits and vegetables in total exports amounted to 5.7%.
The main export markets for fruit and vegetable products are the Russian Federation, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and the People’s Republic of China.
According to the results of January-June 2021, the largest volume in value terms of exports of fruit and vegetable products falls on Russia (28.2% of the total volume of fruit and vegetable products), which exceeds the volume of exports to China by 3.8 times.
At the end of January-June 2021, the export of textile products was carried out in the amount of US$1.35 billion, which amounted to 19.2% of the total export volume and, compared to January-June 2020, it increased by 62.9 %.
Cotton yarn (56.4%), as well as finished knitwear and garments (22.9%), account for the main share in the structure of export of textile products. In January-June 2021, more than 427 types of textile products were exported to 57 countries.
The largest share of textile exports falls on the Russian Federation (US$434.5 million - 32.1%) and the PRC (US$337.8 million - 24.9%).
The volume of exports of services in January-June 2021 amounted to US$1.13 billion, or 16.1% of the total trade exports, and increased, compared to the same period in 2020, by 12.0%. Transport services (71.3%), travel (tourism) (14.0%), telecommunications, computer and information services (6.8%), and other business services (3.0%) account for the lion’s share of the export of services. At the same time, other services (4.9%), respectively, account for the largest share of other construction services (1.1%), financial services (1.1%), insurance and pension services (1.1%), etc.
During the reporting period, imports amounted to US$10.95 billion (an increase in growth rates, compared to January-June 2020, amounted to 13.6%). The main share in its structure is occupied by machinery and transport equipment (32.8%), industrial goods (18.9%), as well as chemicals and similar products (13.8%).
Analysis of the dynamics of imports of goods also showed that in January-June 2021, compared to the same period in 2020, the volume of imports of goods increased by US$1.37 billion and amounted to US$10.29 billion, and imports of services reached US$661.3 million.
The largest volume of imports was recorded in April 2021 and was recorded at the level of US$2.13 billion. Compared to the same month in 2020, it increased by US$508.9 million.

Uzbekistan’s imports in the second quarter of 2021 amounted to US$6.25 billion, which is 32.8% more than in the previous quarter.
The share of imports from the CIS countries, compared to the same period in 2020, increased by 5.6% and their share in foreign trade turnover, in January-June 2021, amounted to 40.1%.
In general, in January-June 2021, goods and services from 150 countries were imported to the Republic of Uzbekistan. One third of imports comes from such large partner countries as China, the Russian Federation, Kazakhstan, the Republic of Korea, Turkey, Germany and India.
In the structure of imports of the republic, a significant share is noted in Tashkent city, which is 47.6%, or US$5.21 billion, and the smallest share is recorded in Surkhandarya - 0.9%, or US$102.6 million.
The volume of imports of services in January-June 2021 amounted to US$661.3 million, or 6.0% of its total volume, and increased by 0.6% compared to the same period in 2020. Travel (tourism - 44.6%), other business services (13.8%), transport services (10.4%), telecommunications, computer and information services (9.2%) account for the bulk of imports of services.
In addition, other services accounted for 22.1% of total imports of services, including a high share of construction services (7.2%), fees for the use of intellectual property (5.6%), maintenance and repair services (4.1%), etc.
At the end of January-June 2021, the volume of machinery and transport equipment in the structure of imports reached 3 596.4 million US dollars and increased, compared to the same period in 2020, by 1.4%, in general, the share in the total volume of imports amounted to 32.8%.
Imports of machinery and transport equipment increased by US$50.0 million. Most of the supply of these goods to the country falls on the PRC – US$1.23 billion (34.3%), the Republic of Korea - US$518.9 million (14.4%) and Turkey - US$361.0 million (10.0%).
At the end of January-June 2021, in the structure of imports, the volume of industrial goods reached US$2.07 billion and increased, compared to the same period in 2020, by 29.1%, in general, the share in the total volume of imports amounted to 18,9%.
The main imports of industrial goods are cast iron and steel (US$875.8 million), metal products (US$256.6 million), products from nonmetallic minerals (US$190.3 million), textile yarn, fabrics, finished products (US$179.5 million), etc.
