Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- In St. Petersburg, on 3 June, within the framework of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, the Minister of Energy of Uzbekistan Alisher Sultanov discussed energy cooperation with the Minister of Energy of Russia Nikolai Shulginov.
During the meeting, the heads of energy departments touched upon the development of interaction in bilateral and multilateral formats, as well as the course of current and prospects for future energy projects of Russian companies in Uzbekistan.
“Uzbekistan as a whole is a long-term partner of Russia in the energy sector, close and stable ties have been developed between the countries both in bilateral and multilateral formats. Active work is underway between Russian and Uzbek companies in the gas, oil and power sectors. Our companies, Gazprom and its subsidiaries, LUKOIL have been successfully cooperating for many years in the development of oil and gas fields in Uzbekistan, and cross-border supplies of energy are growing,” Nikolai Shulginov said.
In addition, Russian companies are actively cooperating, overseeing a number of projects in the electric power industry, in particular, for the construction of hydroelectric power plants on the territory of the Republic, the head of the Russian Ministry of Energy emphasized.
“Last year, within the framework of the Intergovernmental Commission, a Sub-Commission on Energy was created. Her work is aimed at strengthening cooperation between Russian and Uzbek enterprises,” Nikolai Shulginov said.
“Russia is one of the most reliable partners of Uzbekistan in the energy sector. On the basis of cooperation with Russia, a large-scale program is being implemented to increase the production of hydrocarbons, in which VEB.RF and Gazprombank are directly involved from the Russian side. With the support of the Russian company IKS Holding, the Concept of Digitalization of the Energy Industry is being developed and will be implemented. Gazprombank provides significant support in financing investment projects in the oil and gas industry. Zarubezhneft, FORUS JSC, Tatneft and other reputable Russian companies make their contribution to our energy cooperation. It is gratifying that in the course of Uzbek-Russian cooperation, truly breakthrough technologies are being born and applied. A special part of our cooperation is partnership in personnel training. Future specialists of the fuel and energy complex of Uzbekistan today are being trained in the branches of three Russian universities opened in Tashkent. I am sure that we have even more joint projects ahead, which largely determine the energy development of our countries,” said Alisher Sultanov.
