Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- As part of the participation of the Uzbek delegation at the regular meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Minister of Agriculture Jamshid Khojayev met separately with the Minister of Environment, Water Resources and Agriculture Abdulrahman al-Fadli, as well as with representatives of one from the largest financial institutions of Saudi Arabia, the Agricultural Development Fund and other Saudi investment companies in the agriculture and food industry, incl. Salik, Savola, Almarai, Al-Rajhi International, Tamimi Group, Herfay, Al Mehbazh, Sabik and Al-Balik.
During negotiations with the Minister of Environment, Water Resources and Agriculture of the KSA Abdulrahman al-Fadli, the parties considered the possibilities of organizing an Agroforum and an exhibition of products of Uzbek agricultural producers in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in the fall of 2021.
They also discussed issues of land development and the introduction of new technologies with the attraction of investments of Saudi businessmen in the agricultural sector of Uzbekistan and the creation of additional opportunities for Saudi companies. A. al-Fadli expressed his readiness to expand investments in the agricultural sector of the republic, "occupying a central place in Central Asia and carrying out a coordinating role in the region."
The Saudi side also showed interest in cooperation on the "extension" system, including with the participation of the private sector, within the framework of a new system of knowledge, innovation and agricultural services launched in Uzbekistan - AKIS. An agreement was reached to establish cooperation between leading scientific and educational centers in the agricultural sector.
The parties also discussed a possible exchange of experience on the Saudi Arabia Green Initiative and Middle East Green Initiative programs implemented by the KSA, aimed at restoring, preserving and sustainable management of 1 billion hectares of land in the country and the Middle East region by planting more than 60 billion trees to 2040 BC.
The Saudi side also expressed interest in the participation of its companies in the processing of livestock products and the import of finished meat products from Uzbekistan. An agreement was reached on organizing a visit of a delegation of agricultural enterprises to Uzbekistan in June 2021.
During the meetings of the Minister of Agriculture Khodjaev with Saudi investment companies, promising investment opportunities and proposals were discussed. In particular, a Memorandum on the implementation of an investment project in the development of horticulture, greenhouses, grain processing, cotton and livestock products was signed with the Al-Rajhi International company. Within the framework of cooperation, it is envisaged to expand the export of agricultural products from Uzbekistan and provide social and financial support to Uzbek agricultural enterprises and farmers for the development of the production chain in the sector. In June, it is planned to visit Uzbekistan of a delegation of specialists from the company "Al-Rajhi International" for a substantive discussion and agreement of specific proposals. Variants of cooperation with Uzbek farmers on the production of almonds and nuts for further export to Saudi Arabia were discussed with the Al Mehbazh company. Issues of interaction on processing, certification and improving the quality of agricultural products were raised with the Sabik company. With the company "Almarai" the possibility of creating joint ventures for the production of food, poultry and dairy products in the republic is being considered. The issue of obtaining assistance in establishing stable relations with large retail chains, food retailers of the Kingdom (in particular, Panda) in order to ensure a stable supply of agricultural products to Saudi Arabia and the Middle East in general was discussed with the Savola company.
An agreement was reached with the Agricultural Development Fund on the implementation of technical assistance projects, including the introduction of the AKIS system, training and exchange of specialists for the introduction of the latest technologies.
