Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 4 May 2021, the International Institute of Central Asia (IICA) hosted a meeting with the Director of the Scientific Information Center of the Interstate Commission for Water Coordination (SIC ICWC) Viktor Dukhovny.
During the event, the participants exchanged views on the state of the water economy of the Central Asian states, improving the environmental situation in the region, promising areas of cooperation in water and environmental issues. SIC ICWC informed about the first results of the activity of the Expert Platform for Advanced Research in the Field of Water Security and Sustainable Development, created in the development of the initiative of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, voiced at the Summit of the Heads of the Founding States of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea on 24 August 2018.
Following the meeting, the parties reached an agreement on joint research work, including with the participation of partners from Central Asian countries.
In the structure of IICA, there is a Department of water-ecological research.
The main goals are the issues of strengthening confidence-building measures and an atmosphere of cooperation on water and environmental issues between the countries of Central Asia, assistance in the development of mutually acceptable solutions in the field of rational use of transboundary waters and environmental protection.
In addition, an important task is to form a platform for a dialogue on these issues between expert circles and the scientific community of the countries of the region.
SIC ICWC is an analytical and informational body in the development of principles and ways of long-term development of water management, improvement of management and improvement of the ecological situation in the Aral Sea basin.
The center operates in conjunction with a network of scientific and design organizations of Central Asian countries, has national branches in the countries of the region.
SIC ICWC is a part of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea (IFAS).
