Uzbekistan sends humanitarian aid to India

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan has sent humanitarian aid to India to assist in the fight against the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. This was reported by the press service of the Indian Embassy in Tashkent.

Uzbekistan provided 100 portable oxygen concentrators, 2000 units of Remdesivir and other medicines.

The cargo arrived in Delhi on a cargo flight of Uzbekistan Airways on 1 May 2021. The Government of Uzbekistan also facilitated the transportation of 51 portable oxygen concentrators, donated by the Indian Community in Uzbekistan on this flight.

The Government of India expressed its gratitude for the timely assistance and appreciates the kind gesture of President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev for sending much-needed emergency supplies at this difficult hour.

Humanitarian cooperation is one of the important steps in cooperation between India and Uzbekistan during the pandemic crisis, the diplomatic mission of India notes.

It should be recalled that in 2020, India provided Uzbekistan with medicines, including hydroxychloroquine tablets and other medicines used to treat COVID-19. In March 2021, Uzbekistan received 660,000 doses from the Serum Institute of India under the COVAX initiative.

“This cooperation reflects the strategic partnership between India and Uzbekistan, which has further strengthened following the visits of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Uzbekistan in 2015 and 2016 and the visits of the President of Uzbekistan His Excellency Mr. Shavkat Mirziyoyev to India in 2018 and 2019. Both leaders also held a Virtual Summit on 11 December 2020 to promote multifaceted cooperation between the two countries, including humanitarian cooperation in solving the problems associated with the pandemic for all of humanity,” the embassy said.
