Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 29 April, the Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Minister of Investments and Foreign Trade Sardor Umurzakov held virtual talks with the World Bank Vice President for Europe and Central Asia, Anna Bjerde.
The parties discussed the current state and prospects for enhancing the partnership between Uzbekistan and the World Bank. The Bank’s leadership noted the sequence of large-scale socio-economic reforms carried out under the leadership of the President of Uzbekistan, as well as the timeliness and effectiveness of measures to support the economy implemented in 2020.
World Bank Vice President for Europe and Central Asia confirmed the Bank’s commitment to further support the implementation of a broad reform program in Uzbekistan.
The format for further interaction on the development of a new Partnership Program of the World Bank with Uzbekistan for 2022-2026 has been determined. An agreement was reached that the main priority directions of the reform program of the Government of Uzbekistan for the next 5 years will be taken as its basis.
The parties also discussed new promising projects in infrastructure development, energy and housing construction worth US$1.7 billion.
As a result of the negotiations, it was announced that Anna Bjerdewith a World Bank delegation intends to visit Uzbekistan in May this year, in connection with which an agreement was reached to intensify interaction in all areas of bilateral cooperation in order to fill the agenda of the upcoming visit with practical content.
