Uzbekistan, Saudi Arabia discuss cooperation issues

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 12 April, in the format of a video conference, negotiations were held between the Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade of the Republic of Uzbekistan Sardor Umurzakov with the Minister of Investment of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Khalid al-Falih.
During the talks, the sides discussed the current state and prospects of bilateral cooperation in investment, energy, financial and technical spheres.
The parties positively assessed the progress of the projects being implemented in the energy sector by ACWA Power in Syrdarya and Bukhara regions and expressed their commitment to further practical cooperation to provide comprehensive support and accelerate the advancement of these projects. In addition, the prospects for strengthening partnership in this sector by studying new promising projects in other regions of Uzbekistan were considered.
The interest of the Saudi side in expanding cooperation with Uzbekistan in the field of light industry, pharmaceuticals, production of building materials, infrastructure development and tourism was emphasized.
They also noted the significant potential for cooperation in the financial and technical sphere, in such areas as health, education, science and innovation, agriculture and water management, housing and transport infrastructure.
During the dialogue, the parties agreed on the organization of the 4th meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission in the first half of this year in Riyadh (Saudi Arabia).
As a result of the negotiations, an agreement was reached to continue mutually beneficial cooperation and hold regular meetings in the format of video conferencing in order to systematically monitor the progress of joint projects and initiatives.
