Russia introduces a ban on the import of all plant products from Ferghana region

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Rosselkhoznadzor introduces a ban on the import of all plant products from Ferghana region of Uzbekistan.

The Russian department announced that it held negotiations in the format of a video conference with the State Plant Quarantine Inspectorate under the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan (Uzgoskarantin).

The parties discussed the discovery by the Rosselkhoznadzor during the quarantine phytosanitary control of a batch of dried apricots (1 ton) from Ferghana region of Uzbekistan, a quarantine object for Russia and the EAEU member states - a khaprovy beetle (Trogoderma granarium Ev) kg of products, which indicates a serious contamination of the batch.

During the negotiations, the Russian department noted that the khapra beetle is a polyphagous pest of stocks. Its spread on the territory of the country can cause serious damage to the crop of plant, including grain, products. And this can affect the export potential of Russia.

In this regard, the Rosselkhoznadzor is forced to introduce a ban on the import of all regulated products from Ferghana region of Uzbekistan.

The competent department of Uzbekistan will send to the Service the protocols of inspections of warehouses where controlled goods were stored, in which a quarantine object was found.

In addition, the parties agreed to organize negotiations between researchers of the two countries to discuss the methods used to identify the khapra beetle in plant products and to develop a position on the most effective ways to detect it.

At the same time, Uzgoskarantin previously stated that the parties agreed not to impose restrictions.
