Finance 25/06/2007 Guest workers’ money transfers from Russia to Uzbekistan total US$178m in 1Q

In the first quarter of this year, guest workers in Russia sent over US$1.2 billion through different international money transfer systems to the countries of CIS. Most money is sent to Ukraine – US$220 million, followed by Tajikistan – US$198 million, Uzbekistan – US$178 million, Armenia – US$133 million, Azerbaijan – US$115 million, Moldavia – US$114 million, and Georgia – US$102 million.

According to market participants, money transfers from Russia to other countries of the CIS have dropped by third in the first quarter of this year. This is a seasonal fall and the sum of payments is expected to reach its normal level by the end of the year.

Most specialists note that this is a typical situation for the beginning of the year, as a major portion of transfers is made closer to the New Year – the earnings of guest workers and correspondingly money transfers in the first quarter are always lower, UzReport.com reported.

Statistics given above includes money transfers made by the systems of Pochta Rossii, Anelik, Blizko, Contact, InterExpress, Migom, Money Gram, Privat Money, Travelex Worldwide Money Ltd, Unistream, Western Union, Asia Express, Allure, Bystraya Pochta, Guta Sprint, Zolotaya Korona, and Leader.
