BOMCA carries out Technical Advisory Mission in Tashkent

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 1-3 March, BOMCA Technical Mission consisting of Messrs. Aldys Chevers and Aivars Gulbis, associate professors of Riga Technical University, is visiting Tashkent to provide advisory support to the Higher Military Customs Institute of the State Customs Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
The visit is aimed at evaluating the compatibility of the existing training system for customs officers with the World Customs Organization (WCO) professional standards and the recommendations of the Directorate General for Taxation and Customs Union (EU TAXUD).
The EU experts will look in details into the training system and curricula of the Higher Military Customs Institute, of the educational process, its methodical and technical base, as well the progress achieved in terms of compliance with the WCO professional standards.
As a result of the mission and joint discussions with the national experts from Uzbekistan, the EU delegates will develop practical recommendations for the accreditation of the Higher Military Customs Institute training programs in World Customs Organization.
First BOMCA operations began in Central Asia in 2003, and since then, BOMCA has strengthened partnership of the Central Asia Governments in the field of border management. The European Union allocated a sum of EUR 33.6 million to BOMCA for the period of 2003 – 2014 and almost EUR 5 million for its 9th implementation phase (2015 - 2018).
The overall objective of the current phase of the Programme, which is to increase effectiveness and efficiency of border management in Central Asia, will be reached by introducing advanced elements of the Integrated Border Management (IBM), assisting governments in developing and reforming their migration governance, mobility and trade facilitation policies and strengthening capacities of Border and Migration Agencies.
